TMS - Downhole Telemetry for ESPs

Post by ALSEngineer »

The TMS downhole telemetry setup lets you keep an eye on a whole bunch of well parameters. It’s built to measure:
  • Temperature of both the submersible motor and the fluid around it;
  • Intake pressure right at the pump;
  • Vibration along the X, Y, and Z axes.
What’s in the kit:
  • Surface Control Unit (TMSN): This little box sits right inside your ESP control panel.
  • Downhole Sensor Block (BPT or TMSP): This goes way down at the bottom of your submersible motor.
  • Wellhead Controller (KTM): An optional piece if you're lookin' for extra data at the surface.
Why this rig stands out:
  • Smart Wells: With all these extra measurements, you’re basically runnin' a "smart well."
  • Solid Connection: The data channel is fast and won’t let you down.
  • Digital Brain: It’s got fully digital controls.
  • Independent Power: The downhole block doesn't need to lean on anything else for power.
  • Plays Well with Others: You can hook it up to control panels from just about any manufacturer out there.

The TMSN Surface Unit serves as the top-side control component installed directly within the ESP control panel to manage communication with down-hole sensors. This rugged unit powers the sensor block, displays real-time data, and integrates with SCADA systems via Modbus RTU protocol.

Technical Summary: TMS Telemetry System Specs

Surface Interface Module
This is the topside/surface unit typically installed inside the VFD or Switchgear. It acts as the primary interface between the downhole gauge and the SCADA/Control system.

Insulation Monitoring: Tracks system insulation resistance (Transformer - Lead Cable - Motor) from 0 to 9999 kOhm.
I/O Capability:
  • 4 Analog Inputs (4-20 mA) for external sensors.
  • 8 Analog Outputs (0-10 V) for data integration.
  • 2 Discrete Inputs / 2 Discrete Outputs (up to 50 mA).
  • Comms: Supports RS-232 and RS-485 via Modbus RTU protocol.
  • Power Requirement: Standard 110/220V AC supply.
Downhole Gauge
The "bottom-hole" component mounted to the ESP motor.
  • Data Points: Measures Intake Pressure (up to 60 MPa), Motor Winding Temp (up to 400°C), Intake Fluid Temp, and 3-Axis Vibration (X/Y/Z).
  • Scan Rate: 10-second update interval.
  • Power/Comms: Data is transmitted via the Motor Neutral Point (Star point).
  • Dielectric Strength: Rated up to 10 kV.
Wellhead Controller (KTM-5) - Optional
Additional surface module for expanded site monitoring.
  • Expanded I/O: Provides 8 extra Analog Inputs (0-10V and 4-20mA) and 4 Discrete Inputs.
  • Interface: Connects via RS-485 (Modbus RTU).
  • Power: 16-42V DC.
