EMN-Type Mounting Elevator (Elevator Clamp) for ESP Systems

Post by ALSEngineer »

EMN-type mounting elevators are designed for gripping and lifting submersible centrifugal and centrifugal-vortex pump modules at the wellhead during ESP installation and removal operations.

Based on their body design, mounting elevators are divided into two types:

Type I - EMN-114-5, EMN-120-1, EMN-130-4, EMN-172-7, and EMN-189-5 mounting elevators consist of a body (1), a latch (gate) (2), two swing bolts (3), and two nuts (4). The swing bolts (3) rotate around the pins (axle pins) (5).

  6. – Rod (Stem);
  7. – Chain;
  8. – Screw.
In this type, the body is a U-shaped bracket (clevis) with welded lugs featuring openings and holes for slings and rods (6), which prevent the slings from slipping out. Due to the thread length of the swing bolts (3), this mounting elevator design allows for clamping across multiple equipment sizes, which is its primary design feature. An annular shoulder is provided on the inner surfaces of the body and latch; when the elevator is closed, this shoulder fits into the annular groove on the head of the pump section or seal section. To prevent the rods (6) from accidentally falling into the well, they are secured to the body (1) by a chain (7) and screws (8).

Type II — The EMN-140-3 mounting elevator consists of two U-shaped brackets (1) connected by four bolts (3) and secured with four nuts (4) and washers (5).

In this type, the body consists of two symmetrical U-brackets (clevises) with welded lugs featuring openings and holes for slings and retainers (6), which prevent the slings from slipping out. An annular shoulder is provided on the inner surfaces of both brackets; when the elevator is closed, this shoulder fits into the annular groove on the motor section head or the housing. The elevator is secured by evenly tightening all bolts (3) with nuts (4); however, this design allows for mounting on only one specific equipment size for which the elevator is intended. To prevent the retainers (6) from accidentally falling into the well, they are secured to the bracket (1) by a chain (7) and screws (8).

The mounting elevator (Type I and Type II) allows for lifting, lowering, suspending, or supporting the equipment section - or the entire ESP system - on a pedestal (or the wellhead Christmas tree flange).
